Container Chassis

A container chassis is the wheeled steel frame that carries a shipping container behind a truck. Twist locks at each corner grip the container’s corner castings, so the box and chassis travel as one trailer. Buyers use them to move containers around yards, keep storage boxes mobile, or run their own local haulage. If no units are listed below, contact us for current availability.

Types of container chassis

  • 20ft chassis: short frames for 20 foot boxes, including heavy loads such as machinery or building materials.
  • 40ft chassis: the most common frame, sized for 40 foot standard and high cube containers.
  • Extendable or combo chassis: slide to carry 20, 40 and sometimes 45 foot boxes on the same trailer.
  • Tri-axle chassis: an extra axle spreads the weight of heavy loads.

You can read more about how chassis fit into the wider transport system on the container chassis page.

Why buy a container chassis?

Keeping a box on a chassis means you can move it without a crane or tilt-bed truck. That suits yards that rearrange storage often, farms that move containers between fields, and contractors who shift site stores from job to job. A chassis also lifts the container off wet ground.

What to check before buying

  • Match the chassis length to the containers you own or plan to buy.
  • Inspect tyres, brakes, lights and twist locks.
  • Confirm registration and inspection rules for road use in your area, as they differ between countries and regions.
