20ft Shipping Containers
Our 20ft shipping containers are the size most buyers start with, and for good reason. They fit on most driveways and job sites, a tilt-bed truck can drop them almost anywhere with straight access, and they hold roughly the contents of a one or two bedroom home. Below you will find every 20 foot unit we stock, from plain dry boxes to high cube, double door, open side, open top and refrigerated models.

Which 20ft shipping containers do we stock?
Each listing shows the condition and the door layout, so you can compare like with like:
- Standard dry: the one trip 20ft shipping container, the used 20ft shipping container and the new 20ft container.
- High cube: an extra foot of height in the new 20ft high cube, plus one trip and used versions.
- Double door: doors at both ends, as on the one trip 20ft double door container.
- Open side: the whole long side opens on the one trip 20ft open side container.
- Open top: a removable tarp roof for crane loading on the one trip 20ft open top container.
- Refrigerated: fully working units such as the one trip 20ft reefer container.
20ft shipping containers: dimensions
Standard and high cube sizes follow the international intermodal container standards, so a 20 foot box from one factory stacks and locks with any other.
| Measurement | 20ft standard | 20ft high cube |
|---|---|---|
| External length | 20 ft (6.06 m) | 20 ft (6.06 m) |
| External width | 8 ft (2.44 m) | 8 ft (2.44 m) |
| External height | 8 ft 6 in (2.59 m) | 9 ft 6 in (2.90 m) |
| Approx. internal volume | 33 m³ (1,170 cu ft) | 37 m³ (1,300 cu ft) |
Reefers, open tops and open side units give up a little internal space to insulation, frames or door gear, so check the individual product page before planning a tight fit.
What people use 20 foot containers for
Homeowners use them for garden and garage overflow, while contractors keep tools and materials locked on site. Farms store feed and equipment, shops hold seasonal stock, and plenty of buyers turn 20ft shipping containers into workshops or site offices. If you plan to cut in windows or a personnel door, look at our modified shipping containers before you buy a plain box.
20ft or 40ft?
A 40 foot box gives twice the floor area for much less than twice the price, but it needs more room to deliver and place. Our 20ft vs 40ft shipping container comparison covers the trade-offs, and the larger units sit in our 40ft shipping containers range.
New, one trip or used?
One trip boxes have made a single export voyage and look close to new. Used units show dents and surface rust but stay wind and watertight, and they cost less. Our guide to one trip vs used shipping containers explains the grades, or you can go straight to our used shipping containers and new shipping containers.
Delivery and site prep
A tilt-bed truck needs a long, straight run to slide a container off, plus firm and level ground where it lands. Our shipping container delivery guide covers access, foundations and timing. When you have picked one of our 20ft shipping containers, contact our team for a delivered price.
